It is known about the tiff between the makers of Mersal and the BJP government after Vijay uttered about the impact of GST in the country in his film. Despite of several attempts, the makers refused to chop off the episodes and they received firm support from the political as well as the film circles of the country. However, this impacted the Telugu release of the movie titled Adhirindi which has been delayed three times and is yet to receive the censor clearance.

A senior BJP leader had talks with the makers of Mersal and wanted the Tamil version to be re-censored for a smooth Telugu release. The makers were not bothered about the Telugu version as Mersal has been raking massive numbers across the circles of Tamil Nadu. Applying for re-censor will sure have a massive impact on the collections in Tamil Nadu and it is a huge risk to take the step for Telugu release where Vijay has low fanbase. However the talks are on about the Telugu release but a source informed that Adhirindi may not see the lime light soon.
